Latest updates: Term 1 News →
Welcome to Cygnets Class at Walmore Hill Primary School.
We are a mixture of Reception and Year 1 children and we are joined on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons by 'Bright Horizons' Nursery children.
The children have settled in very well after the Summer holidays and are enjoying learning together in our classroom, as well as outdoors.
Our topic in term 1 has been 'Memory Box' and we are hoping to continue this topic during our first week back after the half-term break. We have started to decorate our memory boxes and would like to finish these next week. We have brought in photos of ourselves when we were younger and have talked about our favourite cuddly toys. Next week we will continue painting pictures of teddy bears and practise our mark-making skills when drawing a teddy.
The children loved making Autumn crowns from leaves we collected, as well as learning how to make leaf prints. We enjoyed listening to the poem, 'Misty', by Shirley Hughes.
When celebrating Harvest Festival, we shared our 'Thank You prayers' with the rest of the school. We enjoyed learning some Harvest songs and talking about our favourite fruit.
When we were learning about babies and their needs, Louise, came in to bathe Pippa's baby brother, Leo. We were able to ask questions and compare what babies and school-aged children can/cannot do.
The Reception children have started taking part in 'Letters and Sounds' sessions every day. They are playing really well together and are learning to find their own resources in the classroom.
Next half-term our topic will be 'Moon Zoom'. We will also be getting ready for Christmas later in the term and taking part in a very special Nativity play.
